Choose between a candle holder, hurricane and lantern

A candle holder supports the candle directly, while a hurricane-style design usually places glass around it. A decorative lantern adds an outer structure, which can be woven, pierced or framed. The useful choice depends on the candle or light you plan to use and the space around the display.

Ceramic candle holders create a solid sculptural shape even when unlit. Glass allows the candle to remain visible, and wicker gives a more open, textured outline. A finish that looks metallic does not necessarily mean the item is made from metal; use the stated material rather than judging construction from the colour alone.

Check candle size before choosing a holder

For pillar candle holders, compare the candle's base diameter with the usable supporting area. The overall width of a holder is not necessarily the size of candle it accepts. A glass insert also has its own internal dimensions, which can be smaller than the outside of the lantern. If the permitted candle size is not stated, confirm it before choosing a candle.

Leave the clearance required by the product's instructions. A woven surround and a real flame need particular attention to fit and positioning; a decorative appearance is not evidence that any candle size or flame arrangement is suitable.

Plan the complete display, including height

Lanterns can be much taller than a tabletop candle holder. The wicker silo lantern is 67cm high and 30cm wide and deep, while the tall conical LED lantern reaches 130cm with a 32cm footprint. Measure the position before deciding whether a design belongs on a substantial surface or at floor level.

For a mantel or console, compare the height with artwork, a mirror and other objects around it. A tall holder at each end creates a different balance from a low central group. Keep enough clear surface for the display to feel intentional and for the objects to be positioned securely.

LED lanterns and outdoor placement

Included LED lights are stated on the relevant conical lantern listings. That does not establish the power source, battery type, timer or outdoor rating. Check each of those details separately if it matters to where and how you plan to use the lantern.

A lantern shown in a garden photograph is not automatically weatherproof. Before placing lighting outside, use the product's stated placement guidance and any electrical rating. Otherwise, choose an indoor position rather than treating the photograph as a guarantee.

Are candles included with candle holders?

Only when the listing explicitly includes them. A candle in a styled image does not establish that it comes with the holder. Check the included components before ordering.

What size candle fits a lantern?

Use the permitted size in the product instructions or listing. Compare the candle with the internal holder and required clearances, not just the lantern's outside dimensions.

Do the LED lanterns need batteries?

LED lighting does not identify its power source. Confirm the stated battery or power requirement for the chosen design; where that information is absent, check it before buying the power supply.

Can ceramic candle holders look metallic?

Yes. Metallic appearance can come from a finish applied to ceramic. The material specification tells you the construction, while the colour and finish describe how it looks.

Can I mix candle holders and table lamps?

Yes. They serve different purposes: a candle or LED lantern can create a decorative focal point, while a table lamp provides another layer of room lighting. Choose their heights and footprints together so the surface is not crowded.
