What height salon stool do you need?

Work out where your hands need to be. Sit at your usual working height beside the styling chair, couch or nail desk, and measure from the floor to the top of the seat. Most people find their height somewhere within the range these stools cover, from 42–54 cm on the lowest round stool to 51–66 cm on the compact saddle stools. If colleagues share a stool, pick one with a wide adjustment range. Check the base too: wider bases of about 48–53 cm feel steadier, while compact bases of around 35–37 cm tuck into tight treatment rooms.

Saddle stool or round salon stool?

  • Saddle stools – the sloped seat lets you perch higher and closer to a client, with your legs angled down.
  • Round stools – easy to hop on and off and swivel in any direction, which suits quick tasks and shared stations.
  • Stools with a backrest – somewhere to lean back between clients or during long seated treatments.
  • Rolling salon chairs – a wider 44 × 48 cm seat with a backrest, for anyone who prefers a chair to a stool.

Salon stools: your questions answered

What is a saddle stool used for?

A saddle stool is a wheeled stool with a saddle-shaped seat, used by hairdressers, barbers, beauty therapists, tattoo artists and anyone who works close to a client. The shape lets you sit higher, with your legs angled down.

Are salon stools suitable for hard floors?

Yes. Most have castors that roll easily on laminate, vinyl and tiles, and the compact saddle stools here use PU castors made for hard floors. On carpet, a chair mat helps them glide.

How much weight can a salon stool take?

The stools here are rated for 110–136 kg, with most at 120 kg. Check the listing for the exact figure and choose a model rated comfortably above the user's weight.

How do you clean a salon stool?

Wipe faux leather and PVC seats with a damp cloth and mild soapy water, then dry them, and avoid harsh solvents that can crack the finish. On the round mesh stool, you can simply swap in a fresh seat cover.
