Which Bedtime Person Are You? 5 Bedside Tables for 5 Bedtime Habits

Nov 06, 2026
Five paper-cutout bedroom scenes: plugging in a charger on an oak bedside table, an LED-lit white bedside table, a mug on a floating bedside table, hand cream into a three-drawer table and a plant on a rattan-door cabinet

Updated 6 November 2026 · By the 10Grains team

Above: five bedtime habits, five bedside tables, and one paper-cutout friend who has all five habits.

Came here from our "Which bedtime person are you?" video? All five pieces are below. You can also search SNOOZE327 on 10grains.co.uk to see them side by side.

The short answer: the best bedside table is the one that fits what you actually do at bedtime. Match it to your habit:

Every bedroom has one of these people. The one who falls asleep with their phone on 1%. The one who can't sleep in total darkness. The one whose bed takes up the whole room. The one who keeps everything by the bed. And the one who wants the bedroom to feel like a holiday.

Most couples are two different ones, which is why the bedside tables never match what's on them.

We've matched five bedside tables to five bedtime habits, with sizes, weight limits, honest catches and a real product photo next to each scene. Or take the quiz and we'll match one to your side of the bed.

How we matched them

We're the retailer, so we're not pretending to be neutral. What we did was read every listing: sizes, weight limits, drawer sizes, power and fixing notes. Then we matched each table to a bedtime habit you'll recognise. Every figure below comes from the supplier's published specifications, and every pick gets a "worth knowing" section.

1Falls asleep with their phone on 1%: a pair of oak bedside tables with charging built in

The charger is somewhere behind the bed, the extension lead is under it, and the phone is on 1% again. This person needs the plug where the phone actually goes.

It needs a wall socket. Each table has a 1.5 m power cable, so check where your sockets are.

Weight limits. 30 kg on top, 5 kg in the drawer or on the shelf, 40 kg in total.

How high should a bedside table be?

The usual rule of thumb is that the top sits roughly level with the top of your mattress, give or take a few centimetres, so you can reach a glass or your phone without stretching up or down.

  • Low or divan beds suit the lower tables: the LED table is 52 cm high and the rattan cabinet 58 cm.
  • Taller beds and thick mattresses suit the taller ones: the charging pair is 60 cm and the three-drawer table 68.5 cm.
  • The floating pair sidesteps the question: you fix them at whatever height suits your bed.

Measure from the floor to the top of your mattress before you choose. It takes ten seconds and saves a return.

Three things to check before you buy a bedside table

top level with the mattress

Height next to your mattress
The five range from 52 cm (LED table) to 68.5 cm (three-drawer table), and the floating pair goes wherever you fix it.

1.5 m of cable

A socket nearby
The charging pair has a 1.5 m cable per table, and the LED table needs power too. Check where your sockets are.

screws and anti-tip straps

Fix it to the wall
The floating pair has to be wall-mounted, and the three-drawer table comes with anti-tipping straps. Use them.

Other good options

Charging in white. The set of 2 slim bedside tables with a charging station in white, for a lighter room.

The LED table in black. The black high-gloss bedside table with an app-controlled LED light.

Rattan in a pair. The set of 2 light green rattan bedside tables with arched doors, if one cabinet isn't enough.

What we left out, and why

Big chests of drawers. More storage, but too wide and too tall to sit next to most beds.

Bedside lamps. A different job, and we've covered them in our table lamp guide.
