Which Christmas Table Person Are You? 5 Serving Pieces for 5 Kinds of Christmas Guest

Nov 02, 2026
Five paper-cutout scenes at a Christmas table: cutting cheese, a lazy Susan of dips, a drinks tray, a long grazing board and a jug of winter stems

Updated 2 November 2026 · By the 10Grains team

Above: five Christmas table habits, five serving pieces, and one paper-cutout friend who has all five habits.

Came here from our "Which Christmas table person are you?" video? All five pieces are below. You can also search FEAST325 on 10grains.co.uk to see them side by side.

The short answer: the best thing to add to a Christmas table depends on what you actually do at it. Match it to your habit:

Every Christmas table has one of these people. The one who's been waiting all day for the cheese. The one who wants a little bit of everything and won't ask anyone to pass the dip. The one who sets up a drinks station before the guests arrive. The one whose grazing board gets photographed before anyone's allowed to eat it. And the one who does the table flowers, then moves them so everyone can see each other.

Most tables have at least three of them, usually all reaching for the same olives.

We've matched five of our serving pieces to five Christmas table habits, with sizes, weights, honest catches and a real product photo next to each scene. Or take the quiz and we'll match one to your table.

How we matched them

We're the retailer, so we're not pretending to be neutral. What we did was read every listing: sizes, weights, what's in the set, materials and care notes. Then we matched each piece to a Christmas table habit you'll recognise. Every figure below comes from the supplier's published specifications, and every pick gets a "worth knowing" section.

1The cheese course is their love language: an acacia cheese board set with slate and knives

Turkey's fine. Pudding's fine. But this person has been waiting all day for the cheese, and they've got opinions about which knife goes with which.

Acacia Cheese Board Set with Slate, Black Dish & 3 Knives – 36cm

An acacia board with fitted recesses holding a black slate panel, a long black ceramic dish and three cheese knives with wooden handles.

See it at 10Grains

Why it suits them

Everything has its place. Shaped recesses hold the slate, the dish and the three knives, so nothing slides about when you carry it.

Slate for the cheese, a dish for the rest. Cheeses go on the black slate; the long ceramic dish takes olives, chutney or nuts.

Three knives included. Metal blades with wooden handles that match the acacia board.

Worth knowing

A neat size, not a banquet. At 36 × 23.5 cm it suits a few cheeses for a supper or drinks, rather than a whole buffet.

Sharp blades. The knife blades are sharp; keep them away from children.

Key specs

Overall size: 36 W × 23.5 D × 4 H cm · Total weight: 1.5 kg

Includes: acacia board, black slate panel, black ceramic dish, 3 cheese knives

2Wants a bit of everything: an acacia lazy Susan with seven ceramic bowls

Never mind the main course. This person wants a little of the hummus, a few olives, a crisp, then back to the hummus. And they'd rather not ask anyone to pass anything.

Acacia Wood Lazy Susan with 7 Ceramic Serving Bowls – 29cm

A rotating acacia wood base fitted with white ceramic bowls: six curved sections around a round centre bowl.

See it at 10Grains

Why it suits them

Spin, don't pass. The base rotates, so everyone can reach every bowl without anyone passing anything.

Seven bowls. Six curved sections and a round centre bowl for dips, olives, crudités and nibbles.

Compact. At 29 cm across and 4.5 cm high, it fits in the middle of a set table.

Worth knowing

Hand wash the base. Wash the wooden base by hand and dry it straight away; do not soak it.

Every board differs. Acacia grain and colour vary, so each base is slightly different.

Key specs

Overall size: 29 cm diameter × 4.5 cm high · Weight: 2 kg

Material: rotating acacia wood base, 7 white ceramic bowls

3Sets up a drinks station: a pair of silver hexagon mirrored trays

Before anyone's sat down, this person has cleared the sideboard, lined up the glasses and turned one corner of the room into a proper little bar.

Set of 2 Silver Hexagon Mirrored Trays – 50cm

Two hexagonal trays in different sizes, each with a slim open silver metal frame and a mirrored glass base.

See it at 10Grains

Why it suits them

A ready-made drinks station. The listing suggests one on a sideboard with a decanter and glasses, and the other elsewhere in the house.

Two sizes. The larger tray is 50 × 43 cm; the smaller one nests alongside or goes in another room.

A bit of sparkle. Mirrored bases and bright silver frames give a crisp, slightly Art Deco look.

Worth knowing

Glass bases. Handle with care and do not put hot items on the trays.

Heavier than they look. The pair weighs 8 kg in total.

Accessories not included. The decanter, glasses and decor shown are not part of the set.

Key specs

Larger tray: 50 W × 43 D × 9 H cm · Total weight: 8 kg

Material: silver-finish metal frame, mirrored glass base

4The grazing-board show-off: a metre-long acacia serving board

Grapes in little bunches, a fanned-out row of crackers, three cheeses and a sprig of rosemary for no reason at all. This person's grazing board gets photographed before anyone's allowed near it.

Show-off

Large Acacia Wood Serving Paddle Board – 100cm

A single long acacia board with a streaky caramel-to-honey grain, a slim handle at one end and two battens underneath.

See it at 10Grains

Why it suits them

A full metre long. At 100 × 30 cm it runs down the middle of the table for a whole grazing spread.

Lifted off the table. Two wooden battens underneath raise the board slightly.

Hangs up between parties. The handle has a hanging hole, and the board looks good propped against a kitchen wall.

Worth knowing

Hand wash only. Wash by hand and dry straight away; oil now and then to keep the wood looking its best.

Measure your table. It needs a clear metre down the middle of the table.

Key specs

Overall size: 100 L × 30 W × 3.5 H cm · Weight: 2.5 kg

Material: acacia wood with natural grain variation · handle with hanging hole · indoor use

5Does the table flowers: a cream crackle-glaze jug

Eucalyptus from the garden, a bit of pine, one sprig of holly placed exactly so. This person does the centrepiece, then quietly moves it so everyone can still see each other.

A ribbed cream ceramic jug with a fine crackle glaze, a wide neck and one looped handle. It is watertight inside, so it holds fresh stems.

See it at 10Grains

Why it suits them

Watertight. Fill it with water for fresh stems, or use it for dried grasses and winter branches.

Big enough for armfuls. At 28 cm tall with a wide neck, it takes a generous arrangement.

Good empty, too. Handsome enough to stand on its own on a dining table, console or worktop.

Worth knowing

Indoor use only. Keep it inside and wipe with a soft, damp cloth.

Every jug differs. The glaze and crackle pattern vary slightly from jug to jug.

Key specs

Overall size: 20 W × 20 D × 28 H cm · Weight: 3.8 kg

Material: ceramic with a cream crackle glaze · watertight interior · indoor use only

Grazing board or cheese board: which do you need?

They overlap, but they suit different kinds of Christmas:

  • A cheese board set (number 1) is for a few cheeses after dinner. Number 1 has its own slate, dish and knives, so it arrives at the table ready to go.
  • A long serving board (number 4) is for a whole spread: cheese, charcuterie, fruit, crackers and bread laid out down the middle of the table.
  • A lazy Susan (number 2) is for dips and small bites, when lots of people want a little of everything without passing bowls.

Rule of thumb: a cheese course for four, choose number 1. A Boxing Day buffet for twelve, choose number 4.

Three things to check before you set the Christmas table

leave room for plates and glasses

Table length
Number 4 needs a clear metre down the middle. On a small table, number 1 (36 cm) or number 2 (29 cm across) fit more easily.

spin instead of passing

Who can reach
On a long table, put sharing pieces in the middle. A lazy Susan turns so the far end can reach the dips too.

no soaking the wood

Care after the party
Hand wash and dry the lazy Susan base and the serving board straight away; wipe the cheese board and slate with a damp cloth. The hexagon trays have glass bases: no hot dishes on them.

Other good options

A cheese set with a white bowl. The acacia cheese board set with slate and a white bowl is a slightly smaller take on number 1.

A round board for bread or pizza. The large round acacia serving board is 50 cm across with a loop handle.

Baskets for bread and fruit. The set of 3 round wicker trays nest together and split up around the table.

What we left out, and why

Decorative-only trays. Some of our mirrored trays are sold for display only and are not meant for carrying food or drinks, so they are not on this list.

Dinner sets. Plates and cutlery are a different job. This list is about the pieces in the middle of the table.
