How do animated Santas work?
All five work the same basic way, which is worth knowing before you choose:
- Sound or touch starts them. A clap, a voice or a tap sets off the music and the movement. That's the fun of it, and it also means a noisy room can set them off often. Each listing suggests switching off in noisy surroundings.
- Batteries, not a plug. Each one takes 3 AA batteries, which aren't included. No cable means you can stand him anywhere, but keep spares in the drawer.
- They move in different ways. The chef Santa's head moves, the dancing Santa's body moves, the skiing Santa's arms move, the elf Santa sways, and the voice-activated Santa moves and says hello.
Rule of thumb: if he's going on a table, shelf or windowsill, choose the 2ft skiing Santa. For anywhere on the floor, the 120 cm Santas have more presence.

Footprint
The 120 cm Santas need about 50 × 30 cm of floor each. The elf Santa is the widest at 45 × 44 cm.

Every one takes 3 AA batteries, and none come with them. Buy a pack with your Santa so he works on the day.
What we left out, and why
Inflatable Santas. We've stuck to figures with fabric suits and moving parts here. Inflatables are a different kind of decoration, mostly for the garden.
